THE GHOST VARIATIONS PERFORMANCE
The Ghost Variations performance is a sound improvisation with two instruments playing a re-articulated score. The performance has taken place in Zurich, Montreal, and Mexico City with different musicians playing different instruments.
The first performance took place at Christinger De Mayo Gallery in Zurich on April 10, 2015. Ghost Variations was performed by Faustino Díaz playing the trombone and Ricardo Carvalhoso playing the tuba; both are musicians with the Opernhaus Zürich.
Carvalhoso played outside the gallery, while Díaz played inside, each facing the other and with the re-articulated score on the glass between them. Although each shares the Ghost Variations score, the piece can be performed freely according to each players style within specific technical parameters.
Performance duration: 12 minutes.
